“Afterlands” is a type of track I always wanted to write eventually. It’s got a lot of my influences in, just general music I’ve listened to for years. I’m heavily inspired by the 90s era, way more than the 80s. Not just UK dance here in the 90s, but all these obscure (at the time) games I used to play. Composers like Kōhei Tanaka and of course Nobuo Uematsu. I absolutely hammered RPGs in my youth. It’s an accumulation of all these inspirations in one place that just kind of popped out. I always liked it when you were on a game and you finally left the safety of a village and were out in the wilds as the world opens up. So it’s a homage to that, off and on your way, battling whatever is out there. It’s a lost theme off a game from some far-gone era in an alternate dimension.” – DEADLIFE
