FiXT Neon proudly announces the signing of new label artist, Moonrunner83! Hailing from the northern lights of Calgary, Moonrunner83’s retro-inspired music touches on the personal aspects of daily life for a timeless sound that transcends eras and genres. The project draws inspiration from diverse experiences: the smell of rain in the city, shimmering lights in the dark along the Rocky Mountains, and the connections between individuals that last a moment but linger on for a lifetime. From the grand to the intimate, Moonrunner83’s music embraces the scope of the human condition, giving every song its own unique personality and story to tell.

To mark this announcement, FiXT Neon is re-releasing each of Moonrunner83’s three recordings to date, including the debut Datsun Sundown, the breakout EP Streets, and the celebrated full-length album, Hearts on Fire. These re-releases lay the groundwork to a new era for Moonrunner83, and the artist is currently back in the studio with an ensemble cast of singers and supporting artists preparing new material for 2020.

ABOUT FURY WEEKEND

Fury Weekend is a one-man synthwave act putting a rugged, futuristic spin on retro synth music. The pioneering project was born in 2017 when Belarus-based Ars Nikonov chose to combine his love of classic rock, electronic music, and ‘80s culture into a forward-thinking music venture. The result has sent ripples across the edges of retrowave music and helped to set the stage for a new era of the genre.

The versatility of Ars’ songwriting and his top-notch production as Fury Weekend should come as no surprise, as he’s an experienced creator who’s honed his skills working in diverse genres from EBM and tribal industrial to post-rock. Projects like Diversant: 13, Cold in May, Martian Love, Seanine, and Tribal A.D. fill Ars’ creative resume, and Fury Weekend is the veteran artist’s latest ambitious music journey.

That journey began in 2017 with the release of Fury Weekend’s debut EP, Sunset Overdrive, which connected the nostalgic allure of traditional synthwave music with rock and metal-infused guitar. The result simultaneously represents the music’s past and its future.

The strength of the EP earned equal acclaim from synthwave fans and critics, who embraced its unique stylistic approach and adrenaline-fueled delivery. “Till the Dawn” was especially well-received, landing on NewRetroWave’s hugely popular YouTube channel and gathering thousands of upvotes in the process. Tracks like “Chasing Stars” found similar success, making it onto year-end lists of the best synthwave songs of 2017.

Sunset Overdrive was a hit, but it was only the beginning for Fury Weekend. The artist made an even greater impact with 2017’s full-length album, Retro Rangers. Packed end-to-end with riveting guitar work and captivating synth solos, the album confirmed Fury Weekend’s ability to deliver on a large scale.

2018 saw the release of two more exciting EPs, first on Stranger in LA and then Avengers After Dark. Both recordings extended Fury Weekend’s stylistic exploration while maintaining the energetic and beautifully melodic cyber-synthwave sound fans have come to love. Avengers after Dark in particular featured a bigger sound and more ambitious production techniques than anything from the artist’s past discography.

Ars is just getting warmed up.

In the summer of 2018, Fury Weekend inked a deal with the independent, artist-owned powerhouse label FiXT, within their synth inspired sub-label FiXT Neon. In addition to repackaging all four previous recordings for re-release, FiXT is preparing to launch the next era in Fury Weekend’s impressive career. The move is sure to be a game-changer for the artist, the record label, and the rest of the synthwave world. With a large fanbase already onboard, Fury Weekend is set to redefine the future of retro music.

Synth Riders is a VR rhythm game that takes the player on a journey into a stunning neon-colored cyberpunk world with beautiful stages straight from the ’80s and music from top synthwave and electro-rock artists from around the world.

The player’s goal is to hit different colored notes that fly according to the beat with the corresponding orb while dodging obstacles. Some notes come separately, others in long lines, some need to be hit with one specific orb, others with both orbs simultaneously.

The feature of Synth Riders that sets it apart is that in this game, dancing is not optional but crucial for those who want to climb to the top of the leaderboard. Handcrafted beatmaps are designed to make the players dance naturally, activating the whole body of the player. This makes for a great workout and relaxation when perfectly synced notes flow to the rhythm of electronic music.

Synth Riders was created by Abraham Aguero, the Creative Director at Kluge Interactive. Abraham had an unstoppable obsession with the ’80s; synth sounds, simple game mechanics and signature aesthetics impassioned him into a creative force born out of nostalgia. Abraham created RetroWaveVR, an instagram community with more than 35,000 followers, and a game series, which first launched Max, a homage to Space Invaders. Its second title was Synth Riders, and it was soon pretty evident that this game had serious potential.

PRIZM’s Cover Song Medley “Midnight FM”

PRIZM wears their influences on their sleeve with “Midnight FM,” a brand new cover song medley sincerely dedicated to synthwave innovators The Midnight and FM-84. The gorgeous dreamwave track shifts subtly across its running time, paying homage to The Midnight tracks “Explorers” and “Lost Boy” and the FM-84 songs “Never Stop” and “Running in the Night.” As the group explains, “Midnight FM” represents a special piece of PRIZM’s music genesis:

“We still see ourselves as newcomers to the synthwave scene and we’re always discovering artists and sounds that inspire us, but it’s safe to say that PRIZM would not exist as we do today without FM-84 and The Midnight. The pure creativity of the songwriting and production opened up our minds to what is possible if we just dig deep enough. So we always wanted to do a cover of their songs. Then we thought, “let’s mash them up!” Then we lost our minds and said, “LET’S MASH UP 4 OF THEM.” So here we are and we’re very proud of what came out. We hope everyone who loves the original songs will appreciate hearing them reimagined as much as we loved recording them.”

“Midnight FM” follows on the heels of PRIZM’s recent popwave track “We Were Young” and continues the series of singles from the group after their hit debut EP, PRIZM, released earlier this year by independent synthwave label FIXT Neon.
