After my first listen of After Dark, I was so inspired by the epic movie-like feeling of the record. When I was invited to remix “Downfall” I knew I had to maintain the epic feeling while adding my sonic twists. What I arrived at was something that could be played in the futuristic nightclub of my dreams.

The title track from Essenger’s hit After Dark album takes on new life in the hands of Protostar, whose EDM-infused remix extracts the essence of the original and puts a driving beat and heavy distortion around it for a bold new creation. The result is a must-hear effort for fans of Essenger and Protostar alike. This new remix of “After Dark” is available now on all platforms from independent synthwave label FiXT Neon.

It was really fun to work on this remix for Essenger. I’m very partial to the style of synthwave myself (my whole SEQUENCE EP was derived from it largely, and a lot of my songs have heavy influence from the style), so was easy to meld the styles together. I can really see this working well on the dancefloor and hope my fans and the drum & bass scene and synthwave scenes appreciate it!
