“When I was making this song I imagined the giant drill which is one of the unique elements of the 2080 city. Its purpose is to make tunnels and excavations, but it is also used by corporations to achieve other goals… From the musical perspective my intention was to connect melodiousness of arps and synths with a fat bass sound in a cyberpunk groove.”

Settle in and take a ride to the retro-future. “Back to 2080” brings a slow groove to Cassetter’s discography, patiently weaving melodies in and out of the piece in conjunction with King Protea’s dream-like vocal delivery for a song that will transport listeners to another time and place.

The new track follows “Catch Me If You Can” and “Blue Cabriolet” on Cassetter’s release schedule as he builds toward his second full-length album, Skyspeakers. “Back to 2080” is available now on all major platforms through independent synthwave label FiXT Neon.

“Back to 2080″ was a deep dive into Cassetter’s mind, but as we were writing it was fascinating to note the parallels between a cyber rebellion and our modern world. The unrest that Cassetter feels is not unlike the unrest that any given social climate, political climate, etc. could give someone. His chorus gave great imagery for me to launch off of for the verses, and we wound up with a track filled simultaneously with mystery and hope.”
